DISMANTLING AND RECONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGE COMPLEX OVER HADERA CREEK

As part of a project for widening Highway 2 in the section between Olga and Caesaria Interchanges and turning it into a 3-lane highway, Ashtrom Construction dismantled two existing road bridges and in their place designed and erected two new bridges with an overall length of 160 m. crossing Hadera Creek, together with an arch bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

The two bridges have wide spans of up to 45 metres separated by a space of 5 - 8 metres. The arch bridge was erected using a galvanised steel construction combined with concrete and consisted of two wide spans.

To safeguard the quality of the environment and biodiversity, unique casting and prestressing techniques were used, together with the application of advanced technologies allowing for particularly large spans. Since construction was based on assembly and hoisting, the execution did not include works within the bounds of the creek. Work above the creek was coordinated with the Nature and Parks Authority and the Drainage Authority. Also employed was a painting system providing corrosion protection for 25 years.
